TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Awareness of Bullying in Children and Young People Course Content
The TQUK Level 2 Certificate in Awareness of Bullying in Children and Young People course assesses the following units:
Unit 1: Principles of bullying
In this unit you will learn how bullying is defined, and uncover the different forms of bullying. You will focus on identifying and explaining different methods of one of the most prevalent forms of bullying – cyberbullying – as well as studying ways that cyberbullying can be avoided and prevented. You will look at the short-term and long-term effects of bullying, and get a better understanding of how safeguarding and accountability guidelines play an important role in the care of young people. Finally, you will look more generally at different types of discrimination, and how bullying can take numerous forms of discrimination, as well as examine how peer pressure can play a significant role in bullying.
Unit 2: Recognising bullying in children and young people
In today’s society, bullying has become a prevalent issue that affects many children and young people. It can happen anywhere, from the playground to online spaces, and can have significant negative impacts on the victims’ mental and physical well-being. This unit aims to help you understand the risk factors associated with bullying in children and young people. The unit begins by exploring the physical and non-physical signs of bullying that you need to look out for. Physical signs include unexplained injuries, damaged or missing belongings, and changes in eating or sleeping patterns. Non-physical signs of bullying may include emotional distress, anxiety and depression. By learning about these indicators, you will be better equipped to recognise if a child is experiencing bullying and offer appropriate support. The unit also delves into the reasons why children and young people may bully others. Some children bully due to a lack of attention or support at home, while others may do it to gain popularity or feel powerful. Peer pressure can also play a significant role in causing children to bully others. For instance, they may feel compelled to engage in bullying behaviours to fit in with a particular group of friends or avoid being the victim of bullying themselves.
Unit 3: Action to be taken when a child or young person is being bullied
In this unit, you will learn about the roles that people can play in bullying. It will equip you with useful tools and techniques to help support a child or young person who is being bullied. You will learn how to recognise the signs of bullying, how to talk to the child, and how to advocate for them effectively. You will also explore the behaviours that you should avoid when dealing with bullying and how to approach bullies to address their behaviour. In addition, this unit will provide you with strategies to help to prevent bullying from occurring in settings where children and young people socialise, such as schools, playgrounds and online spaces. You will learn how to promote positive behaviours and create a safe environment. By the end of this unit, you will have a better understanding of bullying and the skills and knowledge needed to effectively support a child or young person who is being bullied.
Unit 4: Understand government guidelines for bullying
In this unit, we will explore the meaning of ‘equality’ and define key terms related to discrimination, including stereotyping, prejudice, labelling, protected characteristics, equal opportunity, positive action, and discrimination by association. Understanding these concepts is essential for developing effective anti-bullying policies and procedures. We will also delve into the importance of behaviour and anti-bullying policies, summarising their key elements and outlining the fundamental aspects of anti-bullying policies and procedures. Additionally, we will explain how bullying should be reported, emphasising the critical role that reporting plays in preventing and addressing bullying. By the end of this unit, you will have a solid understanding of the principles of equality and the various forms of discrimination that can contribute to bullying. You will also be equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to develop effective anti-bullying policies and procedures that promote the optimal environment for upholding the well-being of children.
